What is GRE? GRE or Graduate Record Examination is a computer-based or paper-based standardized test, it is taken by the Educational Testing Service. The test has 3 main components. Analytical writing, that is the ability to discuss and develop complex ideas. Quantitative reasoning, that is, solving basic algebra and mathematical problems. Verbal reasoning, is where the student’s reading comprehension, critical reasoning, and vocabulary usage is assessed. It is used for admission to masters degrees in subjects in various universities. If you want to do your masters in in a US university, you have to take the GRE. How is it scored? It is scored on 3 different scales and then factored onto a scale marking of a total of 170. Analytical writing is scored from 0.0 to 6.0 (in 0.5 increments per question). Verbal reasoning is scored from 130 to 170 and quantitative reasoning Where is it taken and how often? The test can be taken in two ways, a computer-based test and a paper-based test. The computer-based test can be taken for a maximum of 5 times in a year. The test itself is 3 hours and 45 minutes long. The paper based test can be taken up to 3 times a year in October, November and February. There are test centers in Panthapath, Banani and Mohakhali. With AIUB university of Bangladesh offering the test in Banani. Whichever centre you do give the test in, check whether they provide the computer-based test or the paper-based one. Fee for GRE.
