Read the following text and answer the questions that followings. Paul went to meet Kobita and her family the next day. He was in his blue trousers and a grey t-shirt. Kobita’s mother Ms Shahana was a shy woman and she was reluctant to come to Paul. But Paul greeted her warmly in his newly learnt Bangla, “Kemon achen?”Ms. Shahana loved hearing a foreigner speak Bangla. She welcomed Paul to her house. Kobita started talking to Paul. She wanted him to write something for her school magazine. As they were talking, Mrs. Shahana prepared quite a number of Bangladeshi dishes. She served him lunch at noon. Paul had plain rice, chicken curry, fish bhuna, dal and salad for lunch. He liked the tastes of all those delicious items except the dried fish bhorta. He is afraid of hot chilies. He also does not like eating fresh onions. So he skipped the smashed potato which had chopped fresh onions in it. But Paul became very fond of the desert made of rice, gur, milk and coconut. He also enjoyed drinking tea made of fresh cow milk. Paul thanked Kobita and Mrs. Shahana for the lunch. In fact, he was tired of having vegetables and egg-fry for the last few weeks. Read the text and answer the questions: Begum Rokeya was a famous writer and a social worker. She lived in undivided Bangle in the early 20th century. She believed that women should have the same rights and opportunities as men in the society. So, she fought for their cause throughout her life. Begum Rokeya was born in a village called Pairabondh, Rangpur in 1880. Her father Jahiruddin Muhammad Abu Ali Haider Saber was an educated landlord. Rokeya was married to Khan Bahadur Sakhawat Hossain in 1896. Her husband was the Deputy Magistrate of Bhagalpur, now a district in the Indian state of Bihar. He was very cooperative and always encouraged Rokeya to go on with her activities. Many upper class Muslims of Bengal at that time learnt Arabic and Persian as medium of education and communication. But Rokeya had great love for her mother tongue. She learned Bangla and English from her eldest brother Ibrahim. Answer the following questions: (5x1)=5 (a) Who was Begum Rokeya? Read the following text and answer the questions: Mark Twain was born on November 30, 1835 in Florida, America. His schooling began at the age of five and ended when he was twelve years old. After the death of his father in 1847, he entered the printing trade with his brother and remained for ten years in it. In the year 1857, he gave up the printing trade and became a pilot’s apprentice. The on break of the civil war (1861) put an end to his career as a river pilot. In 1869 Mark Twain became part owner of an editor of “The Buffalo Express”. The next year he married Olivia Langdan. In June 1907, he went to England to receive the honorary degree of D.lit at Oxford, three years after he breathed his last. Born on December 9, 1608 in London, Milton spent most of his boyhood in this city. At the age of seventeen he went to Cambridge for study and spent seven years there and completed his M.A degree. In 1638 he started his foreign tour which helped in moulding his cultured and poetic mind. In the year 1640 Milton married Mary Powell, a young girl of seventeen. His wife died in 1652 leaving him with three daughters. He married a second wife in 1656 but two years later she also expired. Of all his poems, “Paradise Lost” is said to be the greatest. He finished the composition in 1664 and published it three years later. His old age was healthful and he had an easy death in 1674.
