Communication Trainer Edmonton, AB, Canada www.ziahasan.com Subject-verb agreement কিছু পুরনো বা জানা বিষয় মাঝে মাঝে ঝালাই না করলে ভুলে যাওয়ার সম্ভাবনা থেকে যায়। আজ তাই অতি পরিচিত অথচ প্রায়ই ভুল হওয়া একটি বিষয় “agreement” নিয়ে আলোচনা করছি। Agreement বলতে মূলত একটি বাক্যের ংঁনলবপঃ এর উপর নির্ভর করে তার াবৎন এর রূপ এর পরিবর্তনের নিয়মকে বোঝায়। Agreement is the word for the correct matching of the subject and the verb in a sentence. আমরা প্রথমে সবচাইতে সহজ নিয়ম দিয়ে শুরু করছি, আর সেটি হল person অনুযায়ি াবৎন এর রূপ। Let’s look at the verb to work: It works They work এবার আসুন ধহফ দিয়ে যুক্ত ংঁনলবপঃ এর ক্ষেত্রে কিছু নিয়ম দেখে নেইঃ ১. সাধারণত দুই বা এর বেশি subject যখন and দিয়ে যুক্ত থাকে তখন verbটি plural হয়। He and his friends are coming for lunch. তবে যদি দুটি বা তার বেশিsingular subject এর আগে each বা every থাকে আর সেগুলো ধহফ দ্বারা যুক্ত হয়, তাহলে verb singular হয়। Every man and woman of the office was attending the party. ২. দুটি singular noun যদি একই ব্যাক্তিকে বোঝায় তাহলে verb টি singular হয়। এখানে খেয়াল রাখতে হবে, একই ব্যাক্তি বোঝালে article একবার আর আলাদা ব্যাক্তি হলে article দুইবার থাকবে। The captain and manager of the team is coming to the meeting. (একজন) The captain and the manager of the team are coming to the meeting.
