IELTS Corner

IELTS stands for International English Language Testing System and it is a test of English language proficiency. The test is designed to assess the language ability of foreign speakers of English who intend to study or work, where English is the main language of communication.It covers all four language skills - listening, reading, writing and speaking. The IELTS test focuses on ÒInternational EnglishÓ, which includes British English, American English and other varieties like Australian or South African English. IELTS is jointly managed by the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations, British Council and IDP Education Australia. In Bangladesh, the British Council is responsible for taking tests, with test centers in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Khulna, Chittagong. They run three test sessions per month, the fee for a regular IELTS exam is BDT 15,200. WHY IELTS?Most Universities and work organi“ations in countries like UK, Ireland, Australia, Nwe Zealand, Canada and USA require a test to judge English language ability, IELTS is one of the most widely recogni“ed medium of such tests. For immigration and further studies abroad alike, IELTS is necessary. The test is measured in Bands, or averages of the marks obtained in the four main language skills out of a total of 10. Universities and organi“ations typically require a band score of between 6 and 7. However a band score of 7+ is encouraged in Bangladesh.
